Industrial Competitiveness: The Challenge for Pakistan

In a world of globalization, with falling transport and communication costs and freer movement of goods and funds, the competitive position of national economies should be of great policy concern. This monograph examines the concept of competitiveness at the country level and considers various indicators of competitive strength. It then 'benchmarks' the position of Pakistan against a range of other countries.

The analysis indicates the importance of economic diversification, of strengthening the educational and technological base of the economy, and of improving the investment climate. The need for a competitiveness strategy is highlighted.
