Corporate Governance of Banks in Asia: Volume 2

This is the second volume resulting from the study on corporate governance of banks in Asia undertaken by ADBI. This volume contains six theme papers that were presented at the seminars in Tokyo that ADBI hosted in collaboration with Hitotsubashi University Center for Economic Institutions in June 2004 and January 2005.

The theme papers include a mixture of conceptual and empirical studies chosen to highlight the major corporate governance mechanisms and key institutional factors affecting corporate governance in banking institutions. The empirical analysis contained in these theme papers are based on survey results conducted in the four Asian countries - Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand - and collated by ADBI in collaboration with the country consultants. They deal with  topics such as financial safety nets, bank ownership and governance quality, market discipline of banks, financial incentives for bank directors, and banks’ risk management practices.

The first volume is about the practice of corporate governance of commercial banks in post-crisis in Asia.

The views expressed in this paper are the views of the author/s and do not necessarily reflect the views or policies of the Asian Development Bank Institute nor the Asian Development Bank. Names of countries or economies mentioned are chosen by the author/s, in the exercise of his/her/their academic freedom, and the Institute is in no way responsible for such usage.
