Banks’ Risk Management Practices: A Survey of Four Asian Emerging Markets
Banks’ risk management practices in the four markets surveyed conform in most part to internationally accepted standards
under the current supervisory framework. In the area of operational and general risk management, banks’ practices leave much
to be desired. Domestic and foreign-owned banks, or banks with different types of ownership do not exhibit significant differences
in risk management performance.
Survey results also show that overall, banks face medium risks, low risks associated with lending practices and medium
to high risks associated with borrowers, and over-dependence on specific business activities and markets.
