Export Growth and Industrial Policy: An Overview of East Asian Experience
The role of government in the success story of the high growth years in East and Southeast Asia has been much discussed.
This paper examines the specific role of industrial policy or strategic interventions designed to influence
the allocation of resources in favor of particular sectors, activities or firms.
It concludes that although such policies were broadly successful, no single model was applied and that success was
very uneven between countries.
