Possible Policy Development for Creating Trans-Asian Transport Network - Paper
Kenji Ono discussed the current trends of trade, traffic and logistics in Asia. He identified the core issues and possible intervention measures concerning the transportation infrastructure network in Asia. He said that transportation demand and economic growth are linked, and that cross-border transport (CBT) is the means and end towards regional prosperity and peace. Mr. Ono presented possible initiatives by transport experts including developing a common Asian Transport Policy in order to realize the smooth and efficient movement of people and goods, which is one of the key policies in maintaining the sustainability of the Asian economy. He also suggested that local authorities should play a pivotal role in creating regional transport corridors. Lastly, he proposed the establishment of an Asian experts’ study network for the formulation, implementation and monitoring common transport policies.
