Aging Asia: Regional Cooperation and Policy Responses

Share

Background

Many countries in Asia, particular in East Asia, are now on the edge of drastic demographic changes. Some countries will face demographic challenges related to a declining share of their working populations and an increase in the share of aged dependents as early as 2015-2020.

The rapidly aging population of East Asian countries is expected to have adverse effects on their economic strength and development through a decrease in the labor force, and lower saving and investment rates. Against this backdrop, this international conference will provide the opportunity to discuss current status and characteristics of aging in East Asia. Conference materials are posted on the Policy Research Institute, Ministry of Finance, Japan, website. English agenda and links to papers.  Japanese agenda and links to papers. *
