Tax Conference 2006: Tax Reform and IT InfrastructurePost-event Statement
BackgroundADBI, in partnership with ADB, the Ministry of Finance of Japan, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, are organizing the 16th Tax Conference on 17-20 October 2006. Two key issues in international and national taxation: tax reform and information and telecommunications (IT) infrastructure will be discussed. Many developing countries are facing similar issues on this subject such as decline in customs and duty revenues due to World Trade Organization commitments, the necessity of broadening the tax base, and the shift from direct to indirect taxes. As a result, there is a rapidly growing need to introduce various tax reforms in developing countries. It is also recognized that efficiency of tax administration should be achieved through IT Infrastructure development. The conference offers an opportunity for knowledge sharing through the exchange of best practices in international tax reform and administration. Objectives
