Background
This seminar was held as part of the Institute’s ongoing research project, Corporate Governance in the Banking Sector – Indonesia, Republic of Korea, Thailand, and Malaysia. It was organized in collaboration with the Center for Economic Institutions, Hitotsubashi University, Japan.

Objectives
As the initial seminar of this study it aimed to - clarify the issues to be addressed in the study so that all the project participants – country consultants and other consultants by theme – share a common framework and understanding about the major issues of the project
- allow country consultants to present the initial drafts of their country papers so that they could give their thoughts to the topics of the project and get comments from other seminar participants
- review the tentative questions of a survey - on the effectiveness of banks’ boards of directors, executive compensation, and risk management - to be conducted in each of the countries under study as an essential element of the research project
