Background

Network of Asian River Basin Organizations (NARBO)* was announced at the 3rd World Water Forum in March 2003, and officially established in February 2004 to promote integrated water resources management (IWRM) in Asia Monsoon region. At present, 56 organizations have already joined as members of NARBO (As of October 2007). The goal of NARBO is to help achieve IWRM in river basins throughout Asia with practical actions. Also, NARBO's objective is to strengthen the capacity and effectiveness of River Basin Organizations (RBOs) in promoting IWRM and improving water governance, through training and exchange of information and experiences among RBOs, water-related government agencies and other knowledge partners.

NARBO will hold the 3rd General Meeting to review the implementation of the organization's Action Plan for 2006-2007 and to consolidate work plans for upcoming activities for 2008-2009.
