Purpose
To provide interregional comparative studies on regional cooperation and trade costs in both Latin America and Asia; to examine the trend and the development process of trade cost reduction in the two regions; to conduct policy analysis of regional cooperation in terms of projects aiming to improve cross-border trade logistics for developing countries; and to continue ongoing cooperation with the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) and enhance research networks of government, private sector, and international organizations in the two regions.
Background
This project will address ADBI's strategic priorities of private sector development and regional cooperation. It will provide complementary material to improve understanding of issues related to the trade and logistics pillar of the flagship study on infrastructure and regional cooperation. Expanding private sector activities is important to poverty reduction in Asia, and trade expansion continues to play a critical role in that development. Reducing trade costs through developing trade logistics, among others actions, requires and benefits private sector participation. The planned conference will address these issues, identify best practices in this area and therefore contribute to private sector development and regional cooperation.
