Post-event Statement
This workshop was held in Tokyo from 4 to 8 April 2005. The participants undertook several activities that facilitated the application of results-based management (RBM) concepts to their work situation. The participants prepared sector roadmaps and identified key areas to further implement RBM in their agencies. Workshop presentations are posted on this web site. The RBM workbook is also available for download. |
Background
Developing member countries (DMCs) in the Asia Pacific region have initiated new approaches to enhance their governance and strengthen their focus on development results. ADB has been assisting DMC governments to improve their development planning and project and program implementation, including the adoption of results-based management (RBM) approaches.
In order to achieve better results, the governments will need to put more emphasis on
- planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation;
- linkages between budget allocations and output performance and the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework;
- institutional and human resource development for adopting RBM;
- incentives and ownership;
- Millennium Development Goals indicators and targets for measuring performance; and
- key results areas at the macro, sector, local area, institution and project levels.
This workshop will focus on the DMCs' experiences in implementing RBM.
