OECD-ADBI 12th Roundtable on Capital Market Reform in Asia

Purpose

The roundtable will discuss recent development of global financial situation and regulatory reforms, capital flows and risk management in Asia, the perspective of the Yuan's internationalization and the progress of the regional financial market integration, and assess implications for domestic financial systems and capital markets.

Background

The Roundtable started in 1999 after the Asian financial crisis, and has been held annually since then. The roundtable has become an open forum for financial regulators, policy-makers, practitioners, academic scholars to discuss critical issues on banking and capital market reforms in Asia and regional financial market integration.

Objectives

The objectives of this Roundtable are to:

  1. Review the recent development of global financial situation and regulatory reforms and assess their implications on capital market development and integration in Asia,
  2. Discuss the recent development of capital flows in Asia and how to develop prudent domestic financial systems under liberalized capital movement,
  3. Discuss the progress and challenges of the financial integration in ASEAN, and the prospects and impacts of the Yuan's internationalization, and
  4. Discuss risk management of Asian financial firms and review existing regulatory frameworks to ensure efficient supervision.

  1. Better understanding among key policy makers on
    1. implications of global financial situation and regulatory reforms on capital market development and integration in Asia,
    2. post-crisis capital market development strategies for Asia,
    3. risk management practices of financial firms and regulatory implications, and
    4. challenges on regional financial integration;
    5. the impact of the Yuan's internationalization on Asian financial markets;
  2. Closer cooperation among key stakeholders in regional initiatives to foster the development and linkages of capital markets
  3. Summary of proceedings by 9 April 2012
