Distinguished Speaker Seminar: Andrew Sheng - The Seven Distortions of the Global Economy
Purpose
The purpose of this seminar is to discuss emerging issues and policy challenges that are of interest to policymakers in Asia and the Pacific economies. More specifically, the major transformation underway in the global economy needs to be thoroughly examined and understood to see if it can lead the global economy to a much higher quality and sustainable growth trajectory. To discuss the causes, possible solutions and policy responses to bring the European crisis under control, and the lessons that can be applied to the Asian economies.
Background
The world economy is in a period of major transformation, with major distortions from the perfect financial and economic models currently in use. Knowing how to navigate in this period of distortion requires a different mindset.
Andrew Sheng is President of the Fung Global Institute, a new Hong Kong-based think tank that seeks to understand global issues from Asian perspectives. He was Chairman of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission and is an adviser to China's Banking Regulatory Commission.
