Judges 2005

A distinguished four-member panel will judge the 2005 entries. Judges are:

Yoshio Murakami is the Adviser on International Affairs to The Asahi Shimbun, on which he also served as a Director of the Board. In a 40-year career with the Asahi, he has been a Viet Nam war correspondent, Bangkok Bureau Chief (covering Southeast Asia), Chief of the American General Bureau, and Deputy Managing Editor.

Suvendrini Kakuchi is a Sri Lankan journalist reporting for Inter Press Service, an international wire service, and is also a regular commentator on Asian issues for Japanese publications and television. Ms. Kakuchi is a Nieman Fellow and the recipient of a fellowship for South Asian reporters from the Foreign Press Center Foundation, Japan.

Monzurul Huq is a Bangladeshi journalist with working experience at the United Nations and the BBC World Service. He moved to Japan in April 1994 and is the Tokyo Correspondent of the Daily Star and Prothom Alo, two leading national dailies in Bangladesh. He is also a translator and announcer at NHK and teaches at Tokyo University of Foreign Affairs, Yokohama National University and Keisen University. A member of the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan since 2000, Monzurul Huq was elected Secretary of the Club in June 2004.

The presiding judge is Anthony Rowley, the Tokyo Correspondent of The Business Times and Field Editor for Oxford Analytica. He has had more than 25 years of working experience in the region and was formerly Business Editor and International Finance Editor for the Far Eastern Economic Review. Mr. Rowley has a strong interest in economic development and international finance institutions. He is currently president of the Foreign Correspondents Club of Japan.
