ADBI's Annual Conference 2008: Asia’s Contribution to Global Economic Development and Stability

Tokyo (28 November 2008) - The Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) will hold its annual conference on Friday 5 December 2008.

The conference will focus on how Asia can take a leading role in enhancing stability and growth across the global economy. Sessions will highlight three areas:

  • Global Economic Stability (chaired by Chalongphob Sussangkarn, Thailand Development Research Institute)
  • Global Trade System (chaired by M. Ali Khan, Johns Hopkins University)
  • Global Public Goods (chaired by Cielito Habito, Ateneo de Manila University)

The keynote address will be given by Jean Pisani-Ferry, Director, Brussels European and Global Economic Laboratory. Other guest speakers include: Shinji Takagi (Osaka University), Kym Anderson (Adelaide University), Inkyo Cheong (Inha University), Ram Upendra Das (Research and Information System), Medhi Krongkaew (National Institute of Development), and Matthias Ruth (University of Maryland).

The conference will close with a panel discussion on the topic "Into the 21st century: how can developed and developing countries work together to tackle the big economic development issues?"

Closing remarks will be given by Haruhiko Kuroda, President of the Asian Development Bank.
